Parents' feedback
Why debate?
Debate (academic debate) is probably the extracurricular activity with the greatest impact on a young person's cognitive and emotional capacities:
Develops critical
thinking

Your child is challenged to think independently, to analyze phenomena, to argue both sides of a topic, to question the evidence behind a position, to make logical connections. His mind will "buzz" in a fun and challenging context, with others his age and just as smart.
Structured and eloquent communication
In debate, they learn to formulate arguments and deliver them convincingly in a speech. Then they learn to reconstruct them after they have been attacked and identify the weaknesses in their opponents. Over and over again. It will change the way they communicate – both at school and at home. You will hear “Mom, but that’s not an argument.” That’s a good sign.
Improves control of emotions
How we react to stressful situations is defining for academic and professional success. In debate, your child practices controlling emotions in stressful situations (when delivering a speech, when being questioned, in competitions). After hundreds of repetitions, he will "whistle" through oral exams, job interviews and tense meetings.
Increases
self-esteem

(Pre)Adolescence is a time when self-esteem is a big issue for many young people. The fact that they will be able to speak in a reasoned and coherent manner, overcoming one of their biggest fears and being able to get what they have "in their heads" out "into their mouths" will give them confidence in themselves at a time when they really need it.

Emi Beteringhe

I'm Emi Beteringhe and I'm the founder of the Better Speakers project.
I have been in the world of debate for 26 years , I started as a debater in the 10th grade and I have never left this world. I have been a debater (regional and international champion), instructor at middle school, high school and university debate clubs, international trainer and adjudicator, coordinator of a regional association for 17 years and executive president of ARDOR (Romanian Association of Debates, Oratory and Rhetoric) for 10 years.
Even though I am proud of my achievements, many of them for the benefit of others and of education in general, I am here to make you, the parent reading this text, understand that at Better Speakers we do not do things "by the ear."
